Nandansar Lake, also known as Nandan Sar, is one of the largest and most breathtaking alpine lakes in the Pir Panjal Range of Jammu & Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of about 3,500 meters (11,480 ft), this oval-shaped lake stretches over a kilometer in length and is famed for its deep, crystal-blue waters. Surrounded by rolling green meadows and rugged snow-clad peaks, it forms part of the famous Seven Lakes Valley (Girgan Valley) trek, which also includes Chandansar Lake located just 1.5 km away.

The lake holds deep cultural and spiritual significance among locals, who believe it to be sacred. Bathing or washing in its waters is traditionally prohibited, preserving its pristine beauty for generations. Nandansar is fed by streams like the Jadi Marg Nullah, and its waters eventually drain into the Kashmir Valley.

Reaching the lake is an adventure in itself, trek usually starts from pir ki gali through high-altitude meadows, and scenic mountain passes. The best time to visit is between July and September when the trail is clear of snow and the surrounding landscapes are at their most vibrant. Nandansar offers a rare combination of raw wilderness, tranquility, and awe-inspiring beauty.
